What is hypnosis?
Hypnotherapy uses the tool of hypnosis to enable the client and therapist to access, more easily, the unconscious part of the mind. Our amazing unconscious mind, like a massive hard drive, stores everything we are and every moment we experience from conception until we pass on.
Why is it important to support the unconscious mind?
It is in the unconscious where we store the fears, dreams and desires which we find difficult and uncomfortable to hold in our conscious mind.

If we were continuously faced with difficult, even painful thoughts and memories we would never be able to get on with our daily lives.
Allowing our subconscious to speak out what is on its mind can help to release a lot of stress and tension.

Reassuring, supporting, encouraging and boosting the subconscious mind can have positive, life-transforming effects.
What happens in a trance state?
In hypnosis the therapist aims to induce in the client a trance state.
This is merely a state in which the conscious mind is relaxed, distracted and not alert to external stimuli.
This is called the theta brain wave state, and is a common state in which we fall in and out of during our daily lives.
For example, have you ever driven one of your regular routes on autopilot, you easily zone out, your mind goes inward, and you arrive at your destination without really having focused on your journey at all?

Am I in control?
A trance state is not supernatural or potentially dangerous in any way.
You are totally in control and aware of what is going on, it’s just that you are super relaxed and allowing yourself to let go the control of your conscious thoughts.
This is why a hypnotherapy session can only take place when the client feels in a totally safe space, or else they would not allow themselves to relax into a trance state.

Your mind would not allow yourself into a situation in which you didn’t feel was safe and indeed beneficial.
It is for this reason that it can often take a person a while to go into a trance state in session, and like with many things, the more you practice it the better it gets.
What can hypnotherapy help with?
A hypnotherapy session can be a space to simply experience deep relaxation and stress release.

It can help you to unlock potential and inner resourses that have been until now, locked in your unconscious.

It can help free you from depression, anxiety and anxiety induced habits such as nervous tics and addictions. It can also help to release and resolve traumatic memories of past events.
